May 2012

Since March just gone we’ve visited Our bus only a couple of times. The weather saw to it that we were not going to do much! It rained persistently throughout our time being with her (Arthur’s got me referring to the bus as a ‘She’ already!! – Lisa) and we just haven’t been able to  get much done but all the time we’ve spent just like times before have always proved very interesting, fun and, shall we say, educational. I say educational because our experiences on our visits to the bus have always been different on every time.

Water, water!

We do not have fresh running water yet and so the simplest tasks can become tricky. With no running water on the bus it is only fortunate for us while on the yard that the yard has an outside tap which I believe was purposely put there to be used for the hoses to wash vehicles and equipment at the yard. We fill a bucket or saucepan (a clean one of course) . We have a baby belling type twin hob but first we must turn on the generator which is sometimes a bit  tempramental which is not very reliable. So, to heat and clean the water we need the power to boil the water on the hob. We have found using the generator is becoming expensive. It costs £10 to fill the generator with petrol. Just to power the hob for water takes quite a bit. The hob is slow to heat up (unlike gas which is immediate direct and exact temp). So, we have our boiled water. I put half the water aside in another pan to cool. The first part already boiled is Perfect for a cup of tea, boiled eggs etc. Then use the rest maybe for washing up, cleaning hands and grubby faces! The cooled boiled water is put into our fridge on the bus and we keep that to drink from or to reheat later. Rather than going back and forth to the tap we occassionally store collected water in large bottles and stash them away. I would like to start collecting rainwater but we’ve tried this before and we’re going to need water perifying tablets and lots of filters, especially at this yard – many little bugs and mites like to pop in for a ‘bite’ to eat too and I just know the water would just attract them more! We get mosquitos and flies like anywhere else but more so as we’re near a river and they’re often found on there. I wouldn’t trust drinking from the river either and certanly wouldn’t advise it to anyone!

We can’t wait to run the electric cables through the bus to get them up and on! The mornings are nice and fresh but in the evenings it can get extremely cold. Don’t have the fabrics up at the windows properly yet just some lightweight caravan curtains but atleast it makes things more private. Also, when the rads go in so too will our gas tank be put on and then all will be sorted. The generator will power the electrics and ofcourse the gas will be used for the gas cooking and only have the baby belling hob for when low on gas. I am seriously considering solar for many little things which will make life easier. Electric will be used for lighting, got lots of good bulbs waiting to click into their places. We shall have solar for backup (That’s my own personal addition to the ‘running power’ should either we run out of gas or petrol for the generator or just fail us at anytime) and help out with the whole ‘eco’ for energy , just little things like lamps, radios, chargers and suchlike. Well, we have everything we need to run the bus as well as use it as a home(getting a different toilet to the last one as well) but, it’s just a case of good weather and patience to get those things in and crossed off. Not long now though. We do have some windows to seal. Over the the last couple of months where the rain had been so bad and non-stop, alot of rain has been coming in through whatever it can and has caused a bit of a puddle. The puddle we found first thing one morning, and very wet bedding! Arthur was not amused but did see the funnyside. Kenny pops into our bed now and then and we do sometimes find he wets our bed. Well, Kenny did creep into our bed on the bus that night of the terrible storm. Kenny was dry all night,, Daddy was absolutely soaked though! oh dear! And the next night Arthur had the cheek to swap places with me, but well atleast I never got AS wet as he the night before. I managed to tuck my blankets right up away from the wall of the bus!! Good job too. So, we have been going round trying to seal every orifice we can with sealing putty. See how it holds. The amount that came in that night we could’ve had a bath in it though. Oh poop, we haven’t got one of those yet! – bucket n’flannel anyone? A nice little shower perhaps?  All in good time. Please let’s just have some sunshine and get us on the roll again. More fun coming up. Can’t wait!

March 2012

We’ve been putting loads of really interesting info and links onto our Forum over the last few days which are mainly to do with Planning Permissions and all the legal stuff which is required when putting a bus, or any vehicle or motorhome or even indeed the caravan or even a shed onto land. Finding out all the pro’s and cons of renting / buying land and also some links to finding land and sites for the purpose of living upon, business use camping, and of course finding the right type of land. There are many websites out there which, if you pay them money you’ll get some kind of book or dvd/ download of ‘important information’ on how to claim land for free. Well, personally I would never want to stay long on that website and neither part with money as more often than not it’s a scam. On our forum we only put links we have tried and tesed ourselves, become members to or ones which are within the uk / british isles and have an existing home/business address and when it comes to contact details I’d advise to stay away from google accounts and check the phone numbers! 0740 or 0704 often come up dodgy! Free land claims can happen but I would suggest you read thoroughly and absorb all the legal stuff from sites which have the ‘gov’ (government) placed on the domain of the website name and if they are an ‘org’ (organisation). Alot of Estate agencies are now are placing ‘land for rent / sale’ on their websites too. A nice little plot is certainly what we are aiming for but that comes after sorting the bus in the first place and trying best to save our pennies. I (Lisa) have been doing alot of homework on the subject of Land and the law, what Acts have changed or altered and what rights we have. How long can you stay on land which has no planning permission. How long after someone has vacated the land to then claim it yourself. Really interesting. Anyone who has been there, done it and got the printed T-Shirt do let us know?

Happy Valentine!

Personalised Valentine Card

I ( Lisa) recieved a lovely card from Arthur for Valentine’s Day. I also was presented with a lovely meal, he was chef for the day. While he was preparing dinner I got busy on my gift for him. I spainted a self portrait of him and me. I’ve called it ‘True Valentine’. He really loves it. That’s going up on our living room wall, eventually when we’ve moved completely onto our bus the painting shall be put up most probably on the partition wall which separates the lounge area from the bedroom on the lower deck at the back. Considering I did it all within 7 hours It don’t look too bad. I love painting and drawing – as you may know, my designs are sold on my other website at LisaSharpDesigns.com as prints on apparel and various items. Please take a look, you can even upload your own images to put on things. Customise it, Personalise it, whatever you want!

I have also been very busy updating our forum and also Arthur’s Business website. I have also come up with an invention! I have created another website which, when finished will include my latest online invention – which I am still not telling anyone about. You can become a member now if you like but please bear in mind it is still very much under construction. You can find that here – click to enter VOOZiDO!

January 2012

Happy New Year to ya’ll!

What have we been doing? Umm not alot to do with the bus – apart from planning a much needed break in February. This month we have bee writing some notes. We have been updating our Forum and to date we have now got 3 Members, We could really do with having more people pop in and take a look and become members. Since January 1st we have had approx 15 Guests weekly going in and having a noozle but we really need some members.

Arthur and I have also been going on Flickr and having a good laugh at some of the weird and wonderful Vehicles and Homes. Take a look on our Flickr PhotoStream. Also, Should you come across any photos of our bus anywhere at all No matter how old the photos are (the older the better!) or if you take any pics yourself please do put them in the special Gallery titled NCD563M on Flickr Thanks.

We are still needing many things for our Bus. We are looking for Generators of 6.5 kva or more. We shall be needing a shotblaster / sandblaster cheaper than the ones we keep bumping into – if you have one you don’t mind renting out locally all the better. The existing shabby paintwork needs urgent attention. All needs stripping right down. Has to be sorted before late spring. Our Double decker is gonna look so sweet before long. Can’t wait for that. The Sharps Bus is really going to be something.

Arthur is planning to return back on the Speedway Track this year. He is so looking forward to it, could be his last too. Do you realise the cost of pleasure in sports these days, Goodness me!! Above is the link to the Speedway Rider’s Benevolent Fund which I am sure would welcome your support as much as us. Please CLICK THIS to help.

The Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund is a registered charity, which exists solely for the purpose of assisting Speedway riders who have become seriously injured, been forced into long-term sickness from their work, or whose lives have been devastated as a result of accidents whilst racing Speedway for British-based teams.

Event – Ben Fund Bonanza is on Sunday 11th March 2012 at 5pm if you’re interested!

Arthur has found that the Speedway Bikes have all had to change certain aspects of equipment. The Mudguards and instead of Kevlars, they are going back to Leather?? This surpises me most – Leather gets you hot and sweaty and Kevlar protects against grazing and fire.

December 2011

From The Sharp Family

It’s been rather fffrreeezing cold n very windy. . Ofcourse the season to be jolly! Hmmm.. well, we’ll give it a go !

Oh the weather outside is frightful, but this blog is sooo delightful Until the internet gets slow, Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

That’s right, it’s that special time of year where you can show off your holiday cheer with a little special blog flair — falling snow. To get it started:

  1. Go to your dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Settings » General.
  3. Check the box next to “Show falling snow on this blog.”
  4. Roast some chestnuts.

Some little red breasted birdy told me! 🙂

What have we been doing this month apart from struggling to get christmas pressies, do the decs, make the xmas lists and food shopping lists. Oh, and now no longer attending our little boys xmas panto as the school has had a gas leak and is therefore closed for a few days before the hols. Very gutted, would’ve been AJ’s first xmas at school.

We have been reading alot of news and doing our own research into empty homes around england and following the Televised programmes and web blogs / sites about housing. In particular, CHANNEL 4-

We’ve signed the Great british property scandal Petition. Link. This will hopefully get alot of needy attention and put people into homes, off the streets and into housing! Our local council is (until we move into the bus which shall be very soooon)  London Borough of Croydon, Taberner House . Here’s something: Did you know there are 3,547 empty properties in just the croydon area alone (according to a Freedom of Information request,                2011)? Follow this link to find out more- http://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-great-british-property-scandal/articles/your-neighbourhood?area=2481

DO YOUR BIT

If you are aware of an empty property please report it by sending the postal code to this link- http://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-great-british-property-scandal/articles/your-neighbourhood?area=2481 or go here to the empty homes facebook page http://www.facebook.com/emptyhomes

It’s amazing how many properties are left empty of which the councils don’t even have them registered on there books. If they are it seems the majority of homes are empty for the horrendous plans to demolish. Perfectly good homes going to waste and for what – their million pounds luxury apartments which I don’t know of anybody interested in purchasing let alone renting who can afford to do so in this climate! This is Lisa speaking and My Arthur agrees solidly – do up the empty homes, put them to good use. We try to avoid politics and talking money but that’s what this country boils down to. We don’t need expensive luxury – just happiness. Forget the waiting lists – the councils don’t abide ther own rules anyway, Do the councillors or whoever allocates housing – or ‘The Decision Maker’ actually sit in a room and discuss those who need homes most? Guys like us who are brits to the core and have never left the area, who sit and wait for outcomes never seem to get a look in. Don’t think you’l get housed because your preggers girls cos it don’t work like that these days. Trust me, you’ll be in a hostel for quite some time believe – I know.   My family and I really would like a home of our own – just like anyone else, But we have decided we won’t be waiting for points anymore. Okay, It is a Double Decker Bus but it’ll be fun, challenging, different, quite an experience and more to the point (once all paid for) shall be ours for as long as we want it so and no one can kick us out, press for rent, scream drunk outside our door and at any time we can change the scenery. Bring it on!

Would like to thank all the people who have been sending us their lovely messages of support.  Thanks! 🙂

Have a very Merry Christmas and a Fab New Year – All the best for 2012!

November 2011

Well, now October is done n dusted – thank goodness. And all the Spooks n Hallows are back in their coffins?! We can get on with this months chaos. We have a new addition to the family, Our sweet little Pup, Meg. We named her after a close school friend of Jodie’s who sadly died in August. Since all the News and Gossip over October we have been even more determined to get things rolling with our bus project. Haven’t gone to the bus last month since also our money has been all over the place and we’ve not really had much to work with! Nuff said bout that.

We’ve added some new features to the BusBitzUk Forum. You can now add your favourite Facebook Page right here .You’ll need to sign up first, it only takes a minute. If you are converting a bus into a home too please join the forum. Any tips n pointers are always handy. Loads of useful links. It’s also a great place to show off your pictures and share with others and make new friends or bump into old friends who have an interest in unusual vehicles for living in.

Well, I am off for the mo to collect me sprogs from nursery, ah! Then mayhem no doubt when they get home. Catchya later for more updates. Has there been much news in the papers lately? ha!

Much later in November,, I, (Lisa) have got me self a little scooter – an electric run around so I can be more miss independant. However, bloomin thing don’t really um work. And moving on.. We have also downgraded or perhaps upgraded from a van/minibus to a Toyota Lucida which the kids are loving and we can’t wait to travel in and do the runs to and from the bus. Has fair space in the back. Not seen our dd bus for a little while now. Really itching to pop over n do more work on it. Had some bad times with work or rather no work so have not been able to do much. I bought a lottery ticket other day, won a tenner y’know lol! hehe. Well, see how the next few weeks go.

Arthur did get work but the woman whose house he worked well on and did so much for has screwed him for th money and even got his tools can you believe that! The police won’t do much. Arthur is really gutted. Informing trading standards on that one. Anyone had a similar situ ? How do get customers pay up what they owe you?? It’s a real heavy bummer man!  Said in the most politest way, of course it makes us so very angry. When you do your job well and people rip you off is not funny. Often the situ is the other way round where you get the cowboys come in and don’t do the job right, ripping off old ladies for jobs that didn’t even need doing in the first place. Well, it also happens when the customer or indeed the client has this list of jobs need doing, an agreement made , all the materials purchased and delivered, all the hard work put into making sure the customer is pleased and then wallop she won’t let you return to the place or pick up your own expensive tools. This messed Arthur up for other jobs elsewhere. So, yes quite angry. Waiting for some good luck! maybe a miracle.

October 2011

'Sharps Bus'

We have had such a very, very busy summer!!!!

A lot of wood lain and furniture all in pretty much now. It’s getting there! Well, for the first weekend of this month of october we are home for my daughters birthday, it’s all fun, celebration time and de-stress!!  we had a lovely italian meal i put together for them, they love my italian meals. Me thinks she had a super day,,and a big lump of bday cake.

. Arthurs been busy, he had a little break as advised and now back WORKING so, hopefully all good.  At th mo we chillin SITTING AROUND, LAZY BUMs lol lol. oh dear! hehe . As for me (Lisa) Yes, i do like to be a little different and this is one of our biggest ventures.
What else has been happening?

 The Latest

Well, If you don’t know it already we have had a lot of media attention.

How it came about –

Firstly, we were approached via email we were found by an editor of a media company
in an Ad on Reddragon bus site where we were advertising for a bus at
the beginning of this year and our ad was still visible so that’s how he came
across us by answering the ad. He asked us if we managed to get one yet and we
told him yes and so he asked us how things were going and the conversation went
on. He asked us over the next few days by phone if we would like a SMALL ARTICLE
put into a WOMAN’S MAGAZINE. Arthur and I discussed this of course. We thought
‘’OK, NO HARM IN DOING THAT!’’
We then got a knock on the door at our flat from ther Photographer.Pics were taken.
We all got to the bus, smiled for the pics there, luckily the
weather was at it’s best. Arthur explained a few things about our project to
her. We did a couple of things to the bus until the sun
went down, We returned back to the flat. That eve we got a call from the ED and
he asked Arthur loads of questions. We were not to know the next move!!
Saturday came and I had already decided to do some shopping at Tesco, my 12 yr old son
was with me. Then as soon as I got to the Doors Arthur phoned me. He told me to go and pick up a newspaper,,any one.

I said ‘why?’. Our mate just phoned him and told us we are in The Sun, he told
me the page to turn to,,page 27.
I was so shocked you would not believe.
ALL THE PAPER’S – NOT JUST ONE BUT ALL OF THEM!!!
I threw as many papers as i could in my trolley, grabbed enough
meals for three days and a birthday cake for Jodie ( it was her 16th birthday)
Since that morning we got nothing but grief!Arthur and I and the boys
are all over the world… Ok,We got an apology by phone and by email we were sent A VERY LATE AGREEMENT CONTRACT AND IF SIGNED WE’D GET PAID.We haven’t signed anything even yet.
The story has many errors. It’s actually affected us quite a bit. We did however get an apology from two papers, namely
 THE CROYDON GUARDIAN & BRIGHTON&HOVE NEWS. .
Arthur has been forced out of his new job. Don’t really know what happens next but we shall persevere and muddle through. His return back to work on the friday gave him a brilliant feeling that all was going to be great,,,,,Monday came- no work, absolutely gutted for him. All because of the NEWSPAPERS!!!!!!
Really hope he gets back up okay. Very soon too.

 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2046403/Cash-strapped-family-bed-council-flat–bus.html

The daily mail is just one of the very first newspapers to throw in Barcroft Medias version of our story in it, or atleast THEIR VERSION! All we’d like to say is this :

re: what the papers say. my reply:
Our story was only meant for one woman’s magazine. ther are some errors too. It is not about ‘money’ or ‘politics’ for the reason we’v chosen our project. My Husband DOES work but at times in the past when illness caught him bad he was advised to have a break he then went on JSA for a short time til he felt well in himself to pickup and work again. It is not… about lack of space, number of rooms etc – we just want something different. We’ll be freeing up our flat to someone else anyway. It was not bought frm ebay neither and we did not just have a load of money and buy it, infact we still paying for the bus and where Arthur was out of work ofcourse money went tighter than ever and the installments even stopped for a little while til we pick up again!! We just want to live and work at making our business grow as at the moment our ideas for our business will not succeed where we are from a flat! We are a good solid family unit and the children’s education is paramount so too ther health and safety – all this into serious consideration we have prepared for it all. We expect negative comments anyway, afterall stories change from one person to the next as primarily only one person has been told and only one person came to take photos. Everyone is entitled to have their opinion but just understand this is just about inspiring families that they don’t have to live how others expect them too, if you fancy something different – go for it! That’s the be all and end all with us. Just really want this, if it don’t work so well then it don’t. The photos only show a minute amount of whats really going on to date. oh, and he’s self-employed. Ok, so it’s part time for the mo but please guys don’t judge what u don’t know. we’r happy doing wha we doing. i dnt get carers allowance either. can’t believe it gone this far- nationally tooo! mad!I’d like to also add to hell with th down people, who cares. its not about money or making the correct decisions by following ‘the right way to live and raise kids’ . The kids are fine. they’r educated – so are we actually – ask my school mates lol!!:)) , he’s self employed (we have two websites and the utr number all sorted hehe) and ofcourse sometimes work can be scarce, sometimes his illness does take him out for a bit but that dnt mean we hav to sit around.. he’s self-employed too bt they dnt put that do they. it can mean the paper work is endless, filling in forms over and over but that’s all part n parcel. one minute all’s good n he could get a good wage one month then the next it’s hardly worth the effort he puts in and then he may get ill and have to give it a little rest. I think the longest break has been about 7months totally dependant on benefits. We’r not the only ones in this. I’d love nothing better than to work but right now we’re cool with what he wants to do. On rare occasion i may have sold a piece of art, one of my designs on a t-shirt. I sold a bundle of clothes th other day just to make £50 towards OUR GIRLS BIRTHDAY!! We are not chavs, gypsies or whatever else, we’r just a loving family, solid as a rock getting on with life as we want to live it. Goodness me. Whats with the big deal anyway, it’s not like we doing anything wrong, we’r not being greedy nor cheats. Not hurting anyone,, We are having fun.Well, It amazes me how telling one person can make something escalate to this extent, simply astounding. embarrassing too but in another sense i am proud too! Could’v shown a betr pic tho!
Ho-Hum!

Yet!

HOW WE WERE EXPECTING THE ARTICLE TO LOOK:

Next stop… home!

Our Bus Livery when completed

A family from Coulsdon have decided to move into a Double Decker bus and move to the country . Arthur Sharp and his partner Lisa Luke have a Bristol VR which they bought by advertising online are now turning it into a Mobile Home for themselves and their children, Albert, 12, Arthur, four and two-year-old Kenny. They have two 16 year old daughters also. The family, from near Croydon, south London, are currently living in a three-bed council flat at the moment and plan to get the wheels rolling and their bus ready to move into by later next year. Still in It’s very early stages of the conversion Mr Sharp, who has emphysema has been working very hard on the bus. With all the creature comforts and mod cons any typical home would need is slowly being added as we speak. They’ve saved hard for it all, found things along the way and it’s all starting to come together. The outer shell of the bus will be one of his biggest tasks but he has been getting a lot of help from some of the other people on the yard where the bus is kept. It won’t take long til it’s all ready. Even though Mr Sharp has been diagnosed with an awful illness nothing get’s in his way. At times when the going gets a bit too much and he really needs a break he has then had to sit back-but not for long. He and his gang are determined to hit the road soon.  Mr Sharp is a self-employed Landscaper / Builder, Multi trades man. Currently he works part time or when the work is available. Doctors advised him to take it easy, he has had to give in and take the advice but will only claim J.S.A benefit until able to work. The whole family help each other and Ms Luke also has great business plans for when the project is completed. Lisa is a full-time mother.
Lisa also enjoys Art and paints on canvas, occasionally selling a design to print which she has drawn but she does not make much from this as there is so much of it out there. She also likes to paint murals. Once the bus is renovated, the family plan to move to the south coast, possibly staying on private land with friends, then eventually going off to the west country. Ms Luke got the idea of living on a bus from former school friends who moved onto buses in the 1980s after joining the eco-movement.So far the couple, currently living in Coulsdon, have converted the upper deck into three bedrooms complete with bunk-beds for the boys. An extra sofabed in a chillzone and to the rear another room for the girls converts to aprivate study area in the back room. A flushable Toilet, running hot and cold water with a Shower too. A fully insulated bus complete with central heating and of course carpets throughout makes the top deck very cosy for the kids and ideal fo chilling, playing, watching tv. They can Play consoles or go to the Study for the PC, do homework or to read their books. On the lower deck there is a fitted kitchen put into the front of the bus, then the dining area. A lounge with a sofabed and to the back there is a separate Master Bedroom.

Mr Sharp said: ‘I hope by being out in the country close to the sea air
that my lungs will improve. And this will also help when I am working down
there too. Work can ve scarce but down on the coast my skills are very much
wanted. I would never be short of good work there. The flat has had a lot of
damp treatment but looks like it’s returning. I feel it on my chest. I also
notice the difference when in the areas that when we come away and even though
we’re working on the bus I feel much better with the air there than what I do
when in the London Areas. The children find it refreshes them too and I notice
we all genuinely feel so much better on the bus. Even when the Generator played
up we didn’t moan about cooking on a flame or having to cycle along the river
to go and get petrol from the town there. The people too are all so willing to
lend a hand. We are not the only ones converting a vehicle into a home down
there’

‘We’ve got a network of friends
who have farms or know people with farms. They have said they can either put us
up or approach friends for us to stay with. So, even if the going get’s a bit
tough, we’d never be totally stranded. You don’t need a mobile phone round here
to chat to people. And The kids have found they don’t need things like social
networking sites and computers or xbox anyway. And I know they look forward to
learning more about where they’re at when they are on our bus. They are more
likely to take notice of the things around them and really absorb it all.
Something new every day. Along with the going fishing, swimming, cycling,
nature walks and when travelling on the bus to visit new places and actually
see England for themselves. They’ll still get an education at the school there,
all that’s sorted, we’ve many prospectusses for them. There are many wonderful
schools, colleges and uni’s on the coasts.’ I have been reassured that living
on a bus isn’t going to pose any probs for schooling – as long as they get
there on time!’

’ ‘This is all about not being
tied down to the same space.’

‘And being in a wholesome environment with nice people and the lovely
countryside by the sea.’

Former coach driver Mr Sharp is
completing much of the electrics and plumbing installation himself and will
call on qualified tradesmen to sign off his work to make sure it’s safe and
legal. Ofcourse even when working it can still prove hard coming up with money
to get things to put into our project. We’ve amazed ourselves how we have come
to find things like a complete shower unit for the bus. A complete kitchen for
under £100. It has taken a lot of saving for the larger items. We have yet to
still pay for the bus completely as we also have to consider rent for the yard it
is on. The bus costs £2,000  and we are nearly there though with the payments. Just need the work
coming in and hope I keep my illness steady. I’ve got a load of meds I take to
make it a bit easier’

We don’t have a garden and we
would rather live in a bus and escape to the country where the views are
whatever we want them to be!. We just fancy something different that feels
right for us. So many positives. That’s how best to look at it too, even in the
coldest climate, but with my lot on the bus for any christmas we’d never be
freezing really!’

‘It will be an incredible new way of  life for us and we hope it inspires others that you don’t have to live in a flat or indeed a house if you just don’t want to. It’s far from Greed and it’s not about complaining about housing waiting lists. We were told by the council it could take over 6 years to be re-housed. We came across this bus and would love nothing more than give it a go. At least we would’ve had so much fun and quite an experience doing so. We are not rolling in money and it will take time to even really start living in it with absolutely everything we need in it. We can’t wait!’

But, Barcroft wrote in their own way and it is this:

 http://www.barcroftmedia.com/index.php?10049716221355947120.0000126640938188281327213102011231224&EVENT=WEBSHOP_SEARCH&SEARCHMODE=NEW&OFFER=00001568%7C%7CWe%27re+Giving+Up+Our+Three+Bedroom+Flat+To+Live+On+A+Bus

It is still visible on Barcroft Media’s website. Much to my dismay! What can I do? There must be something..? Has anyone else experienced this where your story has been changed, distorted, with lies and wordings you just would not use nor expect to find all over the papers and magazines and online too. All gone out to publication (rather speedily without going through the article with you so any errors could be ammended if need be) Sold to all the papers in the world and you get nothing back. You might get a late contract/ agreement afterwards but it’s too late. We were offered £250 if we signed and in the document it pretty much  reads that if you sign you give rights to tv and other to access, for them to do as they wish to ‘your story’ or ‘photos’??? What can we do about all the newspapers with a story on it, all your details included, personal stuff whether true or not and with a headline in particular aimed at really bringing you down like you are a nobody, dirt on their shoe —move onto the next mug!!!???

Lisa’s Big Biz Idea!

If you’ve read earlier pages of the Bus Journal you’d notice on page’ ‘ that I (Lisa) had been thinking about what the business from the bus would eventually be(?)

Well, we have now decided the name and exactly what’s on the ‘menu’ for the next few weeks to get the ‘wheels rolling’ and how to get people ‘on board’ if they are able to help with the other side of things. This includes the promotional and advertising and the jargon that comes with it. Neither myself nor Arthur are all that great with how to set up accounting and the actual planning order of things so if any one knows and can help with that -we welcome you.

I have prepared an online area storing all our ideas so I don’t lose bits of paper.

And no I won’t be revealing the business name until we have a lot more set in stone.

I’ll be back to follow on from here next week,,,watch this space.

You may now get off at the next stop

Thanks!

September 2011

Summer was short and sweet but we have done loads more to our bus now. We’ve put up the curtains and installed three four sleeping areas. At the back shall be for our daughters, when they do not use for sleeping in it shall be used as office / library and a place for the kiddies to go and do their homework, use a computer or their laptops. A multi functional QUIET PLACE for the child who wants some peace and quiet, concentration and no DETENTIONS at school! – very important. Next from that we then have boys bunk beds for the younger ones we’ve made for them and then a single raised bed for our older boy with ample clothing storage, above and below, all areas have own handmade wardrobes . Then the little cassette toilet (waiting for it’s delivery next week) and the shower cubicle we found lying around just needs a clean and install that over next couple of weeks. too. By the stairs will be the chillout zone / Games area where the kids can watch Tv, bring ther mates over to play Xbox and games, chat about nothing etc. A couple of cushions and some Toy storage. The seating at the front of the bus will be left for when vehicle is being driven – we’ll be putting seatbelts on them at some point . I’ve already popped up some curtains but once everything done upstairs will change to better window dressing such as blackout blinds and definitely netting or flyscreen to keep out bugs when top windows are open – and prevent our tot from throwing his cars outside which he did the other day. All carpets have been laid and secured upstairs, looking pretty ok I say so myself. Makes it all worthwhile.

August 2011

Been busy completing the draught layout of the bus. Still at this stage unsure of exact setup we shall use but this is our favourite. Bearing in mind the limited space overall so therefore storage will be included at a later date once the main items have been situated in their places. It may well all change round at last minute as the larger pieces go in. Starting on the upperdeck with the Partitions and Bed Frames, where the wiring will be placed. Going by the dimensions on the bus change all over the place. Some parts of the bus are curved slightly more so or lower/higher in places. When using template to cut wood for the partitions we found we could not go by the same measurements for the next piece and the variance can even differ more than just millimeters! I tend to prefer metric when it comes to things like this. However, My Arthur prefers Imperial and would rather go by feet and inches. He has always needed maths and measurements in his work and is often spot on but I still prefer to stick to metric for the finer cuts so it fits snug but not warp from being too tight ofcourse. Should only really stick to one method but we could argue this all day. So, I’ll measure up my way, write it on paper and draw it all out, I’ll mark it on the bus and then he can do all the rest!!! :))

I hope he don’t mind me putting this on the journal but what the hell. Arthur has just been diagnosed with C.O.P.D and Emphysema, hope i spelt correct too. Really in shock but understand how this may have occured. Anyway, without boring anyone he has been told it’s not like a broken leg. It’s not really reversible. Arthur won’t let it bug him tho bless but i do wish he’d take it easy a bit more. He’s like me,,always rushing about trying to get jobs done, make sure all the kids are sorted and ofcourse there’s work, and work on our bus. He is so determined. Well,I won’t nag him so much – ish (can’t promise i won’t altogether!) Done so much to the bus, nothing can stop us now!

UPDATED PLANS FOR BUS

Our Bus Journal.page 6

July 2011
We’ve been very busy bees since our last post in May 2011. Many Jobs done but still such a very long way to go. We’ve all suffered bumps and bruises, sweat and tears, dust, dirt and blood! All the seats and swabs we don’t need are now removed. Top Deck: We have kept the rear seating  to use with Jodie’s bedframe. The front 2 seater and the first three singles, keep those for when travelling and the kids can all sit upstairs. Downstairs on lower deck: Have not decided which to keep yet,  still deciding which we keep for the dining area downstairs. The use of downstairs at the moment is a wood shed!
Trying to keep to the plans is proving hard. We have had to change a couple of things. Such as the size of Jodie’s room was going to keep to 230cm which is the width of inside the bus. Her Bed will run the width of 230cm which is more than an average bed size of 200cm length and 90cm to being typical width of a bed / mattress. Then, allowing leg room and storage space we’ve given her about 200cm in total from rear of bus to door and wall / partitioning. This frees up a good area for her with 100 to 110cm from side of her bed to the door/wall etc. Will eventually put in the storage reas but firstly must stick to building up the wall partitions. For the partitions we have used MDF which, although rather a heavy lot will withstand knocks and movements ( we hope). While putting up these pieces the Generator we purchased recently off Ebay is total poop and the Piston sheared and came through the cylinder head thus slowing us right down. Another waste of time and money. This happened on the Tuesday on midst our stay between Sunday 24th  and Thursday 28th July. Overall it was a good stay, we all had such a great time. A much needed break from Coulsdon. We did quickly pop home on the Monday to pick up the Milk from our morning Milkman and to collect the kids Bicycles. The kids all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. It was quite a learning curve- for all of us. While we had the very very bear essentials – relying on a generator that drank and leaked more than we put into it and used about £30 in Petrol before even getting to Teatime on the first day there!! I took the kids over to the River nearby while Arthur was still ripping out the frames with the Angle grinder and Drill. I then left the older kids with our trusty hound to do a little spot of fishing as I trundled back with Kenny asleep in the Buggy and Aj by my side. Aj loved watching the Swans on the River and learning about Nettle rash and the medicinal use of Dock Leaves, poor mite he stung himself quite a few times but soon forgot about that after Mummy Doctor ‘mended’ his legs, bless! Then when we returned to our bus he fell asleep while I took out the Frames from the bus.
We met a few good people on the yard where our bus is located and learned from them about the area. The people here are busy with their own but are willing to lend a hand and give useful advice. We also met another couple doing a similar project as ours and that was interesting comparing notes and having a general chat about future plans etc.
We are finding the project can be quite a test but we are a good team. The kids work better together here too, and play freer than when at home. The main problem we have really is occupying the youngest ones. While the older children play so well together and offer to help out and get stuck in (mostly) it can be a bit tricky working on a bus with two toddlers. We’ll get there, will take a while but then like I always say, ‘all good things..’. Arthur and work is all over the place, they’r messing about with his wages and it’s really offputting. Not good at all. I’m trying best to come up with ideas for creating some extra pennies. I have sold a couple of things. As fast as we do the money is spent again. Birthdays are coming up again soon too!
Sunday 31st July: Went to the Bus Rally at Worthing. The Worthing Seafront Bus Gathering and Running Day. Once again on the last Sunday in July, in conjunction with the Worthing sea front festival, the popular Worthing Seafront Bus Gathering and Running Day did actually take place this years, no flaws!Buses from Sussex and the Home Counties as well as further afield were present to interest and delight enthusiasts and visitors; the traditional free bus services to places in the Worthing area were running . We Had a bloomin good day. Took all the kids, and our neice oh, and ofcourse our Dog! Superb weather and absolutely packed to the brim. Also included, which we loved were vintage and custom cars and motorbikes, BigFoots and other vehicles. Plenty of entertainment and pocket money stalls. Bought a couple of things, including a Dinky Bristol Vr – as ye do!!  We had a large family bucket of Kfc on the beach and a bottle of coke. Took loads of pictures. Took a quick visit to our bus and say hi to a couple of bods we know there. Journey home was easy, surprisingly no probs along the way .

May 2011
Those who have a Touring vehicle such as perhaps a bus or coach, caravan or motorhome or indeed anything similar I’m sure like us find it hard when it comes to storage. Caravans don’t have too much of a problem, many parks and farms won’t mind you storing a small motorhome or caravan for a small charge and even static caravans and horseboxes and the ocassional single deckers at some places but sadly not for a doubledecker bus. Some farms even offer you work on their Land. We don’t mind at all but so far no joy to actually finding anywhere to near the locations we need. As for the meantime we are not yet ‘living’ in the bus. When it comes to winter we shall require somewhere sheltered preferably and within UK , of course. Ideally between Coulsdon, Surrey where we currently reside in our flat and to the south / southwesterly coast. We aim to keep our double decker bus down on the south west coast for the purpose of keeping near to the yard from which it is at the moment while we sort out the new interiors and all the mechanics. The yard is situated locally to all the services and parts the Bristol may need, and within reach of the coast for the children – should they tire of waiting as we do up the bus. Storage will be one of the bigger probs we may have as, well, we haven’t found anywhere down here – yet!

New Proposals :The Biz – What do you think????
Before we carry on with the actual Project of Our Bus, I would like to quickly write here a dream I keep having since Monday 25th April, that I have decided to put action to. From this I have now decided the business. Firstly, we shall need some help with the funding. We’ve discussed this (since my dream) and Arthur and I think it’s a bloody good idea (‘although I wish I could drive’ – Lisa)
We have now decided to use the bus as our home but also sell from it at locations where we are stationary also. We shall open an online ordering service of food products which would be sold by weight. Rather similar to that of ‘weigh&save’ or ‘pick’n’mix’ confectionery. We are going to introduce very soon a great service to everyone and anyone from all walks of life. To the people on the go, elderly, disabled, homebound etc, kids can pop on and purchase sweets too. We propose to sell from Fruit, veg, flour, pasta and rice, nuts, herbs, dried ingredients for baking bread, rolls and buns, cake, cookies, pies and pasties, pizzas, muffins and scones, special diet, pastries and tarts… ( we prefer good old english foods and baking so the products will not be imported nor too continental- no offence) Also confectionery by weight and other similar convenient foods. No frills, No packaging – just straightforward honest foods from scratch. The convenience being you don’t have to travel to those well known superstores and ‘guess’ what’s in their produce. We are handy in the fact you can call us for deliveries if you know what you want, maybe you just want to make and bake some pies, grab some fruit for ye pud, bake your own bread. Our prices will aim to compete with the superstores by weight, less packaging, cheaper delivery cost ( no cost if you collect from the bus) . All we need to do right now is sort out the bus and get it running on the road, Mission! hehe, hopefully won’t take long. This business will go ahead with or without the bus soon we hope.
But that’s all in a dream – will it work, can it work??
The above is just a brief outline of our proposals, I’ve the complete business plan made up but will the bank touch it? hmmm
Anyone any ideas ?

Please do feel free to comment or help us think of a name for the biz, cheers 🙂

May 2011

After buying our Air Compressor from Eastbourne we went on to visit our bus. Arthur and I are both scratching our heads now and fretting a little – actually quite a lot as funds are low, work is scarce. Birthdays all over the place, our wedding and, In fact my little biz has not moved for months,,,, I am thinking of other ideas to get a couple of pennies into our empty pot–

Well, For now – Here’s some of what we hope to get done by end of this month –

Requires new lock and handle for main doors

New Oil for Gearbox

Hinges for rear side panels

Bulbs and new Headlights

Fix engine and gearbox, oil leakage

Remove seating frames completely

Complete Bus Layout plans

Purchase / find wood, panels, flooring and insulation materials

5kva Generator

See how we get on with all the above.

Ps: if you can help with any ideas, tips, pointers or selling or chucking out anything that we may need or prove very handy indeed please let us know! :))

Especially the electrics, oo-er!!

April 2011

Found One!

Lisa and Arthur Sharp.
Very busy over Mother’s day and our Son’s 12th birthday this month. We have purchased a rather sorry looking doubledecker from Shoreham by sea, which does require lots of Tlc. The Guy who has sold it to us has been great. Will look lovely back in it’s Green and Cream livery as it is a Southdowns Bristol Vr with a Gardner engine. It’s been other places since it’s Southdown days though. It has been painted a few times in different livery since it came out of the Factory in May 1974 (Same year I was born-Lisa) It does have great potential in becoming our new home on wheels. Here are some photos to show you our new home which we hope to complete to a live-in-able standard. Can’t possibly turn away from this project as we have really fallen in love with it. Isn’t it just lovely? It would have been scrapped having served a good time but we are a determined lot willing to put life back into it. Should hopefully be ready for us all to accomodate by Spring 2012.
Found this bus via lots of internet searching this particular bus was suggested to us and so we went ahead and bought the vehicle from a guy well-known in the bus buying world. Sorry, no names here (you can find this out by searching the reg number). April has been our busiest month so far. We’ve already had to sort out so much to the vehicle. We have now removed most of the seats, upstair seat framing needs angle-grinding so that’s going to be a little mission. The seat swabs will be sold and the frames scrapped. We have swept the entire bus, cleaned as much as possible inside. Apart from other jobs we have got to blast off all the old paintwork. Have specially got an Air compressor to do that job.  Photos to come of that a bit later.  We are now also searching for some Furniture, wood and panels for partitioning, Flooring and insulation and so forth. Looking for the correct paint for the external to be completed. Arthur is also miffed by the electrics as some of the wiring is mangled. We have now succeeded in sorting out the lights inside but the headlights need new bulbs etc etc..
Work has been scarce and Arthur hasn’t been feeling too great lately. We have not been keeping with our schedule as he’s had to take a little break.
